Poor Toe

Last Saturday I stayed home from work to do some things around the house that I have really been wanting to get done. It requires Brett and I to be home together which doesn't happen much. Even with him no longer employed, he has spent a lot of time at work finishing small projects and stuff. We spent all Saturday cleaning and organizing our basement (8 years of crap piled up). I got into the hall closet to grab a huge bag of finger nail polish, Evie wanted me to paint her nails. I didn't realize I was pushing off a huge roll of paper from a shelf. I stepped back and all I know was something landed on my foot. I had no idea what happened... I couldn't even think, my foot was in so much pain. But what I could gather from the evidence was that roll of paper landed on my middle toe. I knew it was broken. Even though at that moment I couldn't see anything wrong, I felt it. It didn't take long... within an hour it was swollen and all black and blue. Still can't walk on it very well and I have 3 funerals to work the next 3 nights... so sorry toe, you are really going to be mad.

btw... no news on the job front. Hopefully we will have something soon.

#1 New Years Resolution

Yesterday around 3:15 pm I head out to pick up the girls from school. I open the door and there is Brett standing in the garage. I didn't think much of it at first, work has been slow and so with the holidays Brett will cut out early and spend some time at home. I say "Hey... what are you doing here". He gave me an answer I didn't see coming. With tears streaming down his face... in that few seconds while he catches his breath... I think the worst... someone has died. I was wrong... the company Brett has worked for for 17 years has had to close there doors. PEPG just hasn't been able to recover in this economy. Even though a death would be much worse, this feels like a distant relative to a death. Not knowing when the money will come in or from where. PEPG is gone and it's hard to believe and we feel empty right now. My heart aches for my family, for both the Smith families, for the Law family and mostly for my husband. Brett is a hard worker and loved PEPG. I am grateful though for the 17 years of great employment and the wonderful friendships we have made. So my #1 New Years Resolution this year for 2012 is to find Brett and new job. And during this hard time I have to take a step back and be so thankful that my family is healthy and we have each other.
